Dubai Updates Salik Toll System: Maximum Dh10,000 Fine for Violations Annually
Dubai motorists now face a significant update to the Salik toll system, with fines capped at Dh10,000 per vehicle annually. The new terms and conditions introduced by Dubai's toll gate operator aim to streamline the tolling process and enhance compliance among drivers.
Details of the Update
UAE drivers will incur a maximum of Dh10,000 in fines per vehicle each year under the updated Salik terms. This cap applies to any violations recorded from January 1 to December 31 of each calendar year.
Motorists can contest a toll violation within 13 months from the date of the violation. Additionally, no refunds or transfers of Salik account balances are permitted under the new regulations.
Expansion and Service Enhancements
Salik's services have recently expanded within Dubai. From July 1, Salik gates were installed at the Dubai Mall under a five-year agreement. Parking rates range from Dh20 per hour to Dh1,000 for 24-hour parking. Salik is responsible for the design, financing, development, installation, and management of the parking payment system, while the Dubai Mall handles local infrastructure, office space, and car park maintenance.
User Responsibilities and Account Management
Salik customers must report defective tags within 90 days of detection for a free replacement after verification. In the event of a lost or stolen vehicle or plate, users must immediately notify Salik through authorized channels to deactivate the associated Salik Tag. Until notification is received, Salik will continue to deduct tolls and payments from the user’s account, including any fines or penalties incurred.
A Salik account will become inactive if no tolls, payments, or balance recharges occur for five years, resulting in the forfeiture of any remaining balance.
These updates were made public approximately a month ago, reflecting Salik's ongoing efforts to improve its services and ensure fair practices for all users.
