The 29th edition of the Dubai World Cup came to a dazzling close last night at Meydan Racecourse, delivering yet another unforgettable chapter in global horse racing.
A total of 102 horses from 13 countries competed across nine races, with a record-breaking prize pool of US$30.5 million.
The main event was marked by a historic victory for “Hit Show”, representing Wathnan Racing (Qatar) and ridden by jockey Florent Geroux, who claimed the $12 million top prize—the richest purse in international horse racing.
With over 60,000 spectators at Meydan and more than 1 billion viewers tuning in worldwide, the event reaffirmed Dubai’s position at the epicentre of the equestrian world. The broadcast featured cutting-edge production and immersive storytelling, capturing the spirit of a night where tradition met innovation.
Since its launch in 1996 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai World Cup has steadily climbed the ranks of global prestige, now hosting multiple races within the Top 100 globally. Meydan’s state-of-the-art infrastructure continues to attract the sport’s elite, solidifying the UAE’s leadership in hosting world-class sporting events.
Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, General Manager of the Emirates Racing Authority, praised the event as a reflection of Sheikh Mohammed’s vision to make the UAE a global racing hub. He also lauded the Dubai Racing Club and Meydan’s teams for flawless execution.
Other standout moments included Emirati victories with “Dubai Future” in the Dubai Gold Cup and “Dark Saffron” in the Dubai Golden Shaheen, showcasing the growing strength of local contenders on the world stage.
