As the New Year approaches, Dubai’s fitness centres are witnessing a surge in memberships, driven by residents keen to shed holiday indulgences and commit to health-focused resolutions.

GymNation, one of the UAE’s leading gym chains, anticipates a 20-30% increase in sign-ups this January, reflecting global trends.

“January is always one of the busiest months for gym memberships,”

said William Rasmussen-Dean, UAE Country Director for GymNation.

“Momentum typically peaks in the latter half of the month as people settle back into routines.”

According to Ken Research, this fitness boom is part of a broader wellness trend reshaping Dubai’s fitness market, currently valued at over $700 million and expected to surpass $1 billion

Residents like Sylvie from Jumeirah are embracing this momentum.

“I indulged a lot recently. This year, I’m determined to make fitness a habit, not just a resolution,”

she shared. Similarly, Venkatesh, 42, plans to stick to smaller, achievable goals to maintain consistency.

Gyms across the city, including Binous Gym in Al Quoz, have rolled out promotions to capitalize on the surge. Rizzy, a representative from Binous Gym, noted,

“December and early January are always busy, and our promotions motivate people to kickstart their journeys.”

However, fitness experts emphasize sustainability.

“Set realistic goals and start with consistent, small steps,”

advised Jassi, a trainer in Business Bay.

While 50-60% of adults list fitness as a resolution, research shows that nearly 65% quit within six months. The challenge, as fitness instructor Naved Ali noted, is sustaining motivation beyond the initial months.

Dubai’s focus on wellness, combined with promotional offers and community-driven initiatives, continues to make fitness an integral part of the emirate’s evolving lifestyle.
