Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a notable 6.4% increase in public transport ridership in 2024, with a total of 747.1 million riders, compared to 702 million in 2023.
This growth highlights the city's expanding public transport and shared mobility services, including the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, public buses, marine transport (abras, ferries, water taxis), and taxis.
Average daily ridership surpassed 2 million, marking an increase from 1.92 million in 2023. Additionally, luxury transport services, such as limousines, served 19 million users. The total number of trips across all services reached 153 million, with taxis accounting for over 115 million and shared mobility services contributing 32 million trips.
The months of October and November saw the highest ridership, with November recording nearly 69.9 million riders, followed by October at 68.4 million. The expansion of the public transport network, including the Dubai Metro’s growth and the continuous development of marine transport, has been pivotal in this success. In 2024, the Dubai Metro alone transported 275.4 million riders, a 6% increase from the previous year.
RTA's Director-General, Mattar Al Tayer, praised the growth, attributing it to significant investments in the city's infrastructure. Notably, a new Dubai Metro Blue Line, slated for construction in 2024, will further enhance connectivity, linking key urban areas and Dubai International Airport.
Looking ahead, RTA plans to expand dedicated bus and taxi lanes, further boost ridership, and explore innovative solutions such as trackless trams and self-driving buses, underscoring Dubai’s commitment to sustainable and efficient public transport.
