The UAE’s “Edge of Life” campaign has exceeded expectations, raising over AED2.822 billion to combat global childhood hunger before the end of Ramadan, more than doubling its initial AED1 billion target.
Launched on 13 February 2026 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the initiative aimed to help rescue five million children from hunger and prevent 30 million more from life-threatening malnutrition. The campaign drew support from 44,208 contributors, including individuals, businesses and major humanitarian organisations.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the overwhelming response, reaffirming that the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian work remains constant and deeply rooted. He noted that charitable efforts are a core pillar of the nation’s identity and will continue beyond seasonal initiatives.
Operating under Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, the campaign enabled donations through multiple channels, including digital platforms, SMS and community initiatives. Individual contributions alone exceeded AED707 million.
The campaign was delivered in partnership with global organisations such as UNICEF, Save the Children, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and Action Against Hunger. A major $300 million partnership was also announced to expand global nutrition programmes.
Additional funding came from high-profile pledges by international foundations, alongside proceeds from charity auctions in Dubai, which collectively raised over AED150 million.
The initiative builds on the success of previous Ramadan campaigns led by Sheikh Mohammed, reinforcing the UAE’s growing role in addressing urgent global humanitarian challenges, particularly in vulnerable regions affected by conflict and disaster.
