Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has announced that construction of the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling plant has hit the halfway mark—42 days ahead of schedule.

Located next to EGA’s Al Taweelah smelter, the 170,000-tonne-per-year facility will be the company’s first dedicated recycling plant. Once operational, it will process both post- and pre-consumer scrap into premium low-carbon aluminium billets marketed under the name RevivAL. The project has already logged more than 1.2 million hours of work without a single Lost Time Incident.

The plant features the largest furnace in the UAE, capable of melting 17 tonnes of aluminium per hour, with full installation expected by June. EGA aims to begin producing hot metal in the first half of 2026.

Currently, most aluminium scrap generated in the UAE is exported and lost to the local economy. Once complete, EGA expects to become the country's largest aluminium scrap consumer, marking a significant shift toward domestic recycling and sustainability.

“Recycling is a key global growth opportunity for our industry and for EGA,”

said Abdulnasser bin Kalban, EGA’s CEO.

“This facility is a major step forward in expanding our low-carbon metal portfolio for customers in the UAE and around the world.”

The announcement comes as global demand for recycled aluminium is projected to double by 2040. EGA is actively expanding its recycling footprint with recent acquisitions of Germany’s Leichtmetall and U.S.-based Spectro Alloys.

EGA was also the first in the world to commercially produce aluminium using solar power, sold under the brand CelestiAL. The new facility further strengthens its commitment to low-carbon production and aligns with the UAE’s industrial strategy, Make it in the Emirates.
