Emarat Petroleum Company and Lootah Biofuels have signed an MoU to advance renewable energy and sustainability in line with the UAE’s goals, including the National Biofuels Policy and the Net Zero 2050 strategy. This collaboration focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and promoting clean energy solutions.
Key initiatives include:
- Biodiesel Expansion: Incorporating biodiesel produced by Lootah Biofuels in Emarat’s retail stations, starting with B5 fuel and scaling up in alignment with MoEI guidelines.
- Used Cooking Oil Collection: Developing a system to collect used cooking oils through Emarat’s retail network for conversion into biofuel.
- Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): Exploring the feasibility of manufacturing SAF to support sustainable aviation in the UAE and region.
- Maritime Biodiesel Supply: Providing biodiesel to vessels at specific ports to enhance sustainable maritime transport.
Emarat CEO Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi emphasized the company’s commitment to innovative, sustainable energy solutions, while Lootah Biofuels CEO Yousif Saeed Lootah highlighted the collaboration as a model for public-private partnerships supporting national sustainability initiatives.
Both parties aim to support the UAE’s economic diversification and clean energy goals, ensuring alignment with global transitions towards sustainability.
