Emirates will prohibit the use of power banks during flights beginning October 1, 2025, citing enhanced safety measures to reduce risks linked to lithium battery incidents in aviation.

While passengers may still carry one power bank within set limits, Emirates has confirmed that power banks can no longer be used to charge personal devices in the cabin nor be recharged using the aircraft’s power supply. The airline emphasized that all Emirates aircraft are equipped with in-seat charging, though it advises customers to fully charge their devices before boarding, particularly on long-haul journeys.

The decision follows a comprehensive safety review and comes amid growing concerns across the aviation industry about lithium battery-related incidents. Emirates stated that restricting use and controlling storage of power banks will help mitigate fire risks, while ensuring cabin crew can respond quickly in case of emergencies.

The new regulations underline Emirates’ long-standing commitment to passenger safety, which remains central to its operations.

Key regulations for carrying power banks onboard Emirates flights:

  • Only one power bank under 100 Watt Hours is permitted per passenger
  • Power banks may not be used to charge personal devices during the flight
  • Charging power banks using the aircraft’s power supply is prohibited
  • Accepted power banks must display clear capacity rating information
  • Power banks must be stored in a seat pocket or a bag under the seat, not in overhead bins
  • Power banks remain strictly prohibited in checked luggage
