The Emirates Drug Establishment has strengthened its role in shaping the future of medical product regulation by signing two strategic memoranda of understanding at the World Health Expo 2026 in Expo City Dubai, marking a significant step toward environmental sustainability, regulatory innovation, and advanced drug research.
The agreements were signed during the four-day exhibition running from 9 to 12 February and are designed to support climate neutrality goals, enhance evidence-based decision-making, and reinforce the UAE’s position as a regional and global hub for healthcare innovation.
Dr Fatima Al Kaabi, Director General of the Emirates Drug Establishment, signed the first MoU with ISPOR, the professional society for health economics and outcomes research, represented by Professor Nadia Al Mazrouei, Chair of the ISPOR UAE Chapter. The partnership will focus on strengthening health economics and health technology assessment, facilitating expert exchanges, launching specialised training programmes, and developing collaborative research related to medical products.
A second MoU was signed with Roche Diagnostics Middle East, represented by General Manager Guido Sander and Mohammed Al Amri, Head of Diagnostics. The collaboration aims to promote sustainability in pharmaceutical laboratories, support carbon neutrality and zero-waste initiatives, and enhance technical expertise in designing green laboratory facilities across the UAE.
Alongside the agreements, the Establishment showcased its Organ on Chip project, an advanced scientific platform that enables highly accurate human-based testing of drug efficacy and toxicity.
Dr Shaikha Al Mazrouei, Director of the Reference National Laboratory Drug Department, said the technology accelerates research, improves data reliability, and reduces reliance on animal models.
The Emirates Drug Establishment said the initiative aligns with its mission to modernise the national pharmaceutical system and promote an advanced, sustainable research and development ecosystem in line with global standards.
