Emirates has achieved the Gold Tier distinction in New York JFK Airport’s 2024 Fly Quiet Programme, becoming the only airline to receive the highest recognition for noise reduction.
The Dubai-based carrier scored 92.9, significantly outperforming all other participating airlines.
The Fly Quiet Programme, run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, promotes quieter skies by encouraging airlines to operate low-noise aircraft, follow noise abatement procedures, and use preferential runways. Emirates’ Gold Tier status highlights its long-term commitment to minimising noise at one of the world’s busiest airports.
Since the programme began, Emirates has worked closely with the Port Authority to meet and exceed its environmental performance standards. The airline’s all wide-body fleet, including the Airbus A380, achieves exceptional noise efficiency by carrying more passengers per flight while generating fewer noise events than smaller aircraft.
Emirates’ fleet operates with noise levels exceeding ICAO Chapter 4 standards by more than 12 EPNdB, reflecting its investment in modern, quieter aircraft and operational precision. The airline’s strategy also includes strict compliance with noise abatement and curfews, prioritising noise-preferential runways, and maintaining rigorous internal accountability for any deviations.
This latest recognition follows previous accolades, including Silver Tier status at Newark and the Chairperson’s Award at San Francisco’s Fly Quiet Programme. Beyond its operational achievements, Emirates underscores that quieter operations benefit not only airports but also the surrounding communities by supporting health, quality of life, and economic growth.
