Emirates has strengthened its long term A380 operations with a new agreement that will see the airline take on Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul for Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines from 2027.
The move follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the Dubai Airshow 2025 and marks a major step in expanding the airline’s engineering capabilities.
Under the agreement, Emirates will build a dedicated facility to handle fan case repairs, with its first engine induction expected in 2027. Rolls-Royce will continue to support module repairs through its global network. The airline has also extended its TotalCare service agreement for the A380 fleet well into the 2040s.
Ahmed Safa, Emirates’ Head of Engineering and MRO, said the agreement supports the airline’s plans to operate its A380s for decades to come. He added that developing in house engine maintenance aligns with the ongoing expansion of the Emirates Engineering Maintenance Centre and contributes to Dubai’s growing aerospace sector.
Paul Keenan, Director for Commercial Aviation Aftermarket Operations at Rolls-Royce, said the collaboration adds important capacity to the company’s global MRO network. He noted that the partnership with Emirates supports Rolls-Royce’s wider goal of expanding its maintenance capabilities by 2030.
Emirates is the world’s largest operator of the Airbus A380 with 116 aircraft in service. The airline continues to position the double deck jet as a core part of its fleet, supported by ongoing investments in maintenance, comfort and onboard service.
