Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) has launched its first Culinary Arts Apprenticeship Programme in partnership with the Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), aiming to develop future talent for Dubai’s growing hospitality and aviation sectors.

The programme, which began on 1 September, welcomed 15 apprentices from six nationalities, including the Philippines, Uganda, India, Nepal, Ghana, and Sri Lanka. Participants will undergo a blend of classroom instruction at DCT and hands-on training in EKFC kitchens, leading to a globally recognised Certificate III in Culinary Arts endorsed by the UAE Ministry of Education.

EKFC said the initiative reflects its commitment to building a skilled workforce to support the company’s future expansion at Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central. It also aligns with Dubai’s drive to strengthen its reputation as a global culinary hub while addressing industry-wide skills gaps.

Shahreyar Nawabi, Chief Executive Officer of EKFC, highlighted the importance of apprenticeships in preparing trainees for the realities of professional kitchens. He said the programme would help raise industry standards, nurture home-grown talent, and contribute to Dubai’s evolving culinary and tourism landscape.

Essa Bin Hadher, General Manager of DCT, noted that the collaboration underlines Dubai’s focus on cultivating talent in hospitality. He said the programme will not only support Emirates Flight Catering’s growth but also enhance Dubai’s global standing in tourism and gastronomy.

The launch comes at a time when Dubai’s food and hospitality industries are experiencing strong growth, driven by rising visitor numbers and expanding airport capacity. The new apprenticeship is set to play a role in meeting this demand while opening pathways for aspiring chefs to build sustainable careers.
