Emirates Global Aluminium Extends CelestiAL-R Supply Agreement with BMW Group
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has announced an extension of its CelestiAL-R aluminium supply agreement with the BMW Group, marking a continued partnership for the coming years.
CelestiAL-R, the world’s first aluminium blend produced using solar power and recycled metal, is integral to the BMW Group’s efforts to manufacture high-quality, sustainable vehicle components.
BMW Group’s Chairman, Oliver Zipse, recently visited EGA’s Jebel Ali plant and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai to commemorate the agreement renewal. EGA has been a key aluminium supplier to the BMW Group since 2013, with BMW first adopting EGA’s solar-powered CelestiAL aluminium in 2021. Since early 2023, all aluminium supplied to BMW by EGA has been the advanced CelestiAL-R blend, supporting the BMW Group’s commitment to sustainability.
EGA’s Chief Executive Officer, Abdulnasser bin Kalban, emphasized the significance of this collaboration:
“The BMW Group demands the highest quality metal produced with solar power, and this drives our innovation. We will increase the recycled metal proportion in CelestiAL-R while ensuring BMW’s metal quality specifications are met.”
To achieve these specifications, EGA employs advanced techniques, including optical emission spectrometry, at its metallurgy labs in Jebel Ali and Al Taweelah. Aluminium recycling uses 95% less energy than new production, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions. EGA sources recycled metal domestically and is currently constructing the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling facility in Al Taweelah, projected to produce 170,000 tonnes annually by 2026.
The partnership reinforces EGA and BMW’s shared vision for sustainable, high-quality aluminium in global manufacturing.
