Emirates has partnered with Parsys Telemedicine to revolutionize inflight medical care with cutting-edge telemedicine equipment.
The airline has invested over USD 2.4 million in co-developing the new system, which will be deployed across 300 aircraft in the coming years. This initiative enhances passenger safety by enabling Emirates’ highly trained cabin crew to provide rapid, high-quality medical support during flights.
The newly designed ‘telemedicine station’ features high-definition video conferencing, remote passenger assessment, secure data transmission, and 12-Leads Telecardia ECG. The advanced system includes the Parsys Telemedicine Kit and the Parsys Cloud, enabling real-time communication with Emirates’ Ground Medical Support, a 24/7 team of medical professionals based at Emirates Group Headquarters in Dubai. The kit integrates essential medical devices, including a pulse oximeter, thermometer, blood pressure monitor, glucometer, and electrocardiogram (ECG), ensuring swift and accurate medical assessments.
A key feature of the system is the MedCapture© device, a Bluetooth-enabled tablet that seamlessly transmits passengers’ vital signs to the Ground Medical Support team. This eliminates manual note-taking, enhancing efficiency and minimizing errors. The intuitive software allows cabin crew to operate the system easily, even under challenging conditions, and enables real-time expert consultation for immediate medical intervention.
The new technology is already proving lifesaving. On a recent flight to Lyon, Emirates’ cabin crew successfully managed a cardiovascular emergency using the Parsys system, ensuring swift intervention and effective coordination with ground-based doctors.
Emirates’ commitment to inflight medical care extends beyond technology. Cabin crew undergo intensive medical training, including CPR, AED use, infection control, and emergency childbirth assistance. Their skills are reinforced through annual training and simulation exercises to ensure preparedness for any medical situation. Emirates also prioritizes crew well-being with post-incident psychological support services.
With this groundbreaking telemedicine system, Emirates is setting new industry standards for inflight medical care, ensuring enhanced passenger safety and well-being across its global network.
