Emirates has officially joined the Aviation Circularity Consortium (ACC), furthering its commitment to accelerate the circular economy in aviation.

The move, alongside SL Metals, signals a significant step towards decarbonising the supply chain, following the Consortium's launch of its 2050 Industry Roadmap in November 2024.

As part of its sustainability strategy, Emirates has long embraced circular solutions, from cabin interior upcycling and sustainable product materials to inflight waste reduction initiatives. Its participation in the ACC allows the airline to contribute to advancing innovative circular aviation technologies, driving collaborative efforts to reduce environmental impact.

SL Metals, a leading aluminium alloy distributor in the Asia Pacific and Middle East, brings expertise in material solutions, vital for sustainable aviation practices. The company is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and supporting industry-wide circularity through responsible aluminium sourcing and waste reduction.

Ahmed Safa, Head of Engineering & MRO at Emirates Group, highlighted the urgency of developing sustainable end-of-life solutions for retired aircraft, stating that the airline is focused on extending fleet lifespans and reducing waste. Sam Tan Yee Leong, CEO of SL Metals, echoed this sentiment, underscoring the importance of efficient aluminium use to mitigate aviation’s carbon emissions.

Emirates becomes the second airline to join the ACC, reinforcing the sector’s growing recognition of circularity as key to aviation decarbonisation. This collaboration strengthens the push for sustainable practices in the aviation supply chain, particularly in handling critical materials and ensuring responsible aircraft retirement.
