Dubai welcomed the 6th Annual Emirates Oncology Society (EOS) Conference today, drawing more than 700 oncology specialists and researchers from 20 countries.
Organised in collaboration with the Emirates Medical Association and supported by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), the two-day event showcased the latest advances in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research collaboration.
The conference features over 120 speakers and 50 scientific sessions, covering all major cancers through dedicated tracks and specialised workshops. An accompanying exhibition highlighted the participation of leading global pharmaceutical companies, providing a platform for knowledge exchange between international experts and UAE-based physicians.
Day one included a MoHAP session led by Dr. Buthaina Al Muhairi, focusing on the role of multidisciplinary medical teams in the UAE. Panels examined advanced clinical trials in head and neck cancers, breast cancer treatment strategies, and challenges in managing metastatic disease, including discussions on CDK4/6 inhibitors and endocrine resistance.
A plenary session on innovation in oncology explored early cancer detection through blood tests, Ga-68 FAPI PET imaging, brain tumor management, and emerging T-cell therapies. Lung cancer sessions debated first-line treatments, biomarkers for immunotherapy, and surgical approaches in the era of neoadjuvant immunotherapy.
On the sidelines, biopharmaceutical company Takeda announced the launch of a new oral therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer in the UAE, marking the first such treatment introduced to patients in over a decade.
The conference also honoured 24 researchers and medical professionals for their contributions to cancer research and paid a posthumous tribute to the late Dr. Mohamed Al Ali. Several cancer survivors were recognised for their courage and resilience.
In his opening address, Prof. Humaid bin Harmal Al Shamsi, EOS President, highlighted the UAE’s commitment to medical innovation, stating that the conference “reaffirms the UAE’s role as a leader in promoting research and innovation to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.”
