Emirates and ENOC Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Dubai International Airport, marking a significant step toward reducing the aviation sector’s carbon footprint.

The MoU was formalised at the Dubai Airshow by Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer, and Hussain Sultan Lootah, Acting CEO of ENOC Group. It sets a framework for joint feasibility studies on SAF supply, covering production capabilities, supply chain infrastructure, and commercial viability.

The collaboration aims to identify economically feasible pathways for local SAF production, with ENOC evaluating potential contributions to supply. A joint steering committee will oversee the evaluation process and guide decision-making.

“Emirates continues to explore ways to integrate sustainable aviation fuel adoption in our operations, and this partnership with ENOC represents an important step in that journey,”

Al Redha said.

“Establishing a reliable SAF supply in our Dubai hub is a key priority.”

Lootah added that ENOC recognises the critical role of SAF in cutting carbon emissions and emphasised the UAE’s target of supplying 1 percent of jet fuel to national airlines from locally produced SAF by 2031.

“This collaboration brings us a step closer to that goal,”

he said.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel can be blended with conventional jet fuel at ratios up to 50 percent, offering a lower-carbon alternative compatible with existing aircraft and infrastructure. In its pure form, SAF can cut lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80 percent compared to standard jet fuel.

The partnership reflects growing efforts in the UAE to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon aviation solutions and strengthen the country’s position in sustainable energy development.
