Emirates SkyCargo and LODD Autonomous have taken a significant step toward reshaping air logistics after signing a new agreement at the 2025 Dubai Airshow to explore next generation cargo technology.

The Memorandum of Understanding was formalized by Emirates SkyCargo’s Divisional Senior Vice President Badr Abbas and LODD Autonomous CEO Rashid Al Manai. The partnership sets the stage for both companies to study and test the deployment of vertical take off and landing aircraft across Emirates SkyCargo’s global network.

Under the agreement, the two sides will conduct feasibility studies, engage with regulators and run live demonstrations to validate the use of VTOL aircraft. Emirates SkyCargo will contribute its more than forty years of experience in cargo operations, supporting LODD’s experimental programmes through to the end of 2027.

The initiative builds on momentum from LODD’s recent milestone, the first successful test flight of Hili, its unmanned hybrid heavy lift aircraft developed in Abu Dhabi. Hili operates fully autonomously from takeoff to landing and is designed to carry payloads of up to 250 kilograms over distances reaching 700 kilometres.

Both companies say the collaboration reflects their commitment to advancing logistics capabilities and accelerating the adoption of autonomous cargo solutions. Abbas noted that emerging technologies will define the next era of freight transport and said the airline aims to be at the forefront of innovation. Al Manai added that the partnership will help expand delivery reach, reduce transit times and reinforce the UAE’s growing role as a global logistics hub.
