Emirates SkyCargo experienced exponential growth in 2024, driven by its specialist product portfolio, extensive global network, and all-widebody fleet.

To sustain this momentum, the airline has wet-leased two additional Boeing 747 freighters, increasing its critical main deck cargo capacity by 15% starting January 2025.

Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, emphasized the airline’s commitment to addressing evolving supply chain needs.

“Throughout 2024, we invested significantly in new and leased freighters to ensure stable capacity for our global customers. Enhancing our cargo capabilities aligns with Dubai’s Economic Agenda, enabling us to expand operations and elevate our specialist services,”

Abbas said.

The multi-year lease for the Boeing 747s was signed with Compass Group, a longstanding Emirates partner. This additional capacity meets immediate demand while paving the way for further collaboration. Emirates also added two Boeing 777Fs to its fleet in 2024, focusing on rising eCommerce shipments from Asia. This expansion has increased the freighter network to 38 destinations, including Copenhagen, Denmark.

Currently, Emirates SkyCargo operates 16 aircraft, including 10 Boeing 777Fs and six wet-leased Boeing 747s. With 13 more Boeing 777Fs on order for delivery by 2026, the airline is preparing for its next phase of growth. It is also exploring future fleet options, including the Boeing 777-8F and Airbus A350-1000F.

Additionally, the integration of Emirates’ passenger operations enhances cargo capacity, with expanded flights to key cities such as Johannesburg, Melbourne, and several African destinations. The recent introduction of the A350 further boosts bellyhold capacity with an additional 12 tonnes per flight.

This strategic expansion reaffirms Emirates SkyCargo’s position as a global leader in air freight, facilitating efficient, reliable movement of goods worldwide.
