Emirati Women Achieve Historic Milestones in 2024
Emirati women have reached significant milestones in 2024, showcasing their growing influence and the UAE’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment. The UAE advanced to 7th globally and retained its top regional position in the UN Gender Equality Index 2024, reflecting the country’s successful policies to support women.
Key achievements include the appointment of Sana bint Mohammed Suhail as Minister of Family, enhancing women’s representation in government. The launch of the National Policy for Improving Women's Health provided a comprehensive framework for preventive and therapeutic healthcare for women.
In the economic sphere, the UAE mandated that private joint-stock companies reserve at least one seat for women on their boards, effective January 2025. The Ministry of Economy partnered with the General Women’s Union to promote women entrepreneurs and launched the second phase of the Women's Economic Empowerment Programme, which supports women in starting or growing businesses.
During the UAE Government’s annual meetings, a collaboration between the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council and the UAE Gender Balance Council was announced to enhance Emirati women’s private sector participation.
Emirati women constitute 70% of university graduates, 46% of the total workforce, and 68% of public sector employees. They hold 50% of the seats in the Federal National Council and nearly one-third of ministerial roles, underscoring their vital contributions across sectors.
These accomplishments highlight the UAE’s leadership in fostering women’s empowerment, setting a benchmark for gender equality in the region and beyond.
