Empower and Wasl Group Partner to Deliver Sustainable Cooling Solutions for ‘The Island’ Project in Dubai
Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world’s largest provider of district cooling services, has signed an agreement with Wasl Group to supply 23,853 refrigeration tons (RT) of district cooling to ‘The Island’ project in Dubai.
This partnership supports Dubai’s vision for sustainable development by implementing energy-efficient solutions. The cooling services are slated to commence in Q1 2028.
Situated near Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach, ‘The Island’ is a 10.5-hectare man-made luxury beachfront destination. Developed by Wasl, the project features three iconic hotel brands—MGM, Bellagio, and Aria—and over 1,500 upscale units, including villas and hotel apartments. The development also boasts an extended beachfront with an array of dining, retail, and entertainment options, setting new standards for opulence and convenience.
Empower will employ advanced district cooling systems tailored to The Island’s diverse needs, ensuring energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. District cooling systems reduce energy consumption by up to 50% compared to traditional air conditioning.
H.E. Hesham Abdulla Al Qassim, CEO of Wasl Group, highlighted the project’s role in shaping Dubai’s real estate market and achieving its environmental goals. H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, emphasized that the collaboration underscores developers’ trust in Empower’s services and commitment to sustainability.
Empower’s portfolio includes cooling services for over 21% of Dubai’s hotels and landmark projects like Wasl Tower and Wasl1. The Island project further cements Empower’s leadership in delivering innovative cooling solutions that align with Dubai’s green initiatives under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
