Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has announced a 20% increase in district cooling consumption in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
This marks a significant growth in demand, with a 55% increase observed over the past five years. The rise is attributed to high occupancy rates in existing real estate projects, the addition of large new projects, and a diversified customer base that includes residential, commercial, hospitality and other sectors focused on environmentally friendly practices.
Empower’s connected capacity reached 1.53 million refrigeration tons (RT) in H1 2024, while contracted capacity grew to over 1.72 million RT, reflecting a 44% increase in agreements signed compared to the same period last year. The company’s market share in Dubai's district cooling sector has expanded to over 80% by the end of 2023.
HE Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, highlighted the increasing awareness among developers, building owners, and end-users about the economic and environmental benefits of district cooling, particularly in reducing carbon emissions and conserving natural resources.
Empower continues to enhance its infrastructure and adopt advanced technologies to meet the growing demand for sustainable cooling solutions in line with Dubai's vision for comprehensive and sustainable development.
