Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling provider, has signed an agreement with Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) to supply environmentally friendly district cooling services for the next phase of Uptown Dubai.
The agreement was formalized at DMCC's headquarters in Uptown Tower, with H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, and Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, in attendance.
Under the agreement, Empower will provide cooling services with a capacity of 24,675 refrigeration tons (RT) to Uptown Dubai, a world-class smart district located at the heart of new Dubai. The district is set to feature eight mixed-use towers, offering a blend of retail, dining, luxury hospitality, and sustainable community spaces. This follows the completion of the first phase, including the iconic Uptown Tower.
Empower’s JLT District Cooling project, which includes four plants and a comprehensive pipeline network, serves the entire area with a designed total capacity of 152,000 RT. The project is equipped with advanced infrastructure and smart production systems, ready to cater to any future developments.
H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar highlighted Empower’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting the UAE’s sustainability goals. He emphasized the company’s ongoing role in supplying cooling services to the first phase of the district.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem praised the collaboration, stating that the partnership with Empower plays a pivotal role in realizing Uptown Dubai’s vision of becoming a world-class smart urban destination, offering sustainable solutions to enhance the community's quality of life.
