Starting April 2025, EU citizens will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) and pay a €11 fee to enter the UK.
The ETA, valid for two years, will apply to all EU citizens, including children, and must be obtained in advance for short stays under 60 days. The system aims to enhance security checks and manage immigration more effectively.
In a similar move, the EU will introduce its own travel permit system, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), in spring 2025. ETIAS will cost €7 and be valid for three years.
