The 30th edition of the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress and Exhibition featured a session titled "Accelerating Mobility Transition Towards Smarter and More Sustainable Cities," where experts emphasized the critical role of high-quality data in driving this transformation.
The session, moderated by Zeina Nazer, Co-founder of Cities Forum, UK, underscored the importance of meaningful data collection, analysis, and utilization in advancing urban mobility systems.
Mohammed Al Mudharreb, CEO of Corporate Technology Support Services at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), delivered the keynote address, highlighting the challenges of rapid urban growth. He noted that RTA's advanced Traffic Management System leverages the latest technology, managed by a skilled team, to ensure efficient urban transport planning and integration.
Faysal Ali, Vice President of Parsons Corporation, stressed the need for global knowledge sharing to design cities for people, not just vehicles. He emphasized the economic and societal benefits of intelligent transport systems.
Jon Newhard, CEO of Yunex Traffic, highlighted the essential role of clean transportation and big data in achieving net-zero emissions, while Ramin Massoumi of Arcadis underscored the importance of smart technologies in managing energy consumption and improving environmental conditions.
Dr. Yandong Fan from Transurban discussed Melbourne's efforts in developing intelligent, sustainable transport networks, including electric vehicles and trams. Meanwhile, Addison Ferrell of Skyports introduced Dubai’s groundbreaking air taxi initiative, which positions the city as a leader in smart, sustainable transportation.
The session showcased global initiatives aimed at transforming cities through smarter, more sustainable mobility, driven by data and innovative technologies.
