Expo City Dubai and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have solidified their collaboration with a strategic agreement that positions Expo City as the first developer in the UAE to adopt RICS’ award-winning Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) standard. This partnership marks a significant step in advancing sustainable practices in the built environment across the UAE.
The WLCA standard provides a comprehensive framework for accurate carbon measurement, supporting informed decision-making in construction and development projects. The collaboration will also include training sessions, workshops, and courses aimed at upskilling industry professionals in sustainable development practices.
The agreement was signed by Ahmed Al Khatib, Chief Development and Delivery Officer at Expo City Dubai, and Belinda Howell, Executive Director for the Middle East and Africa at RICS. Representatives from the Emirates Green Building Council were also present.
Expo City Dubai’s new master plan, covering 3.5 square kilometers, aims to house around 35,000 residents and 40,000 professionals, aligning with Dubai's economic vision for a sustainable and prosperous future. This partnership further strengthens the city’s role in the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to double the emirate’s economy by 2033.
Ahmed Al Khatib emphasized the importance of decarbonization and sustainability, noting that the collaboration with RICS reflects Expo City Dubai’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s net-zero goals by 2050. RICS President Tina Paillet highlighted the significance of the partnership, initiated during COP28, as a beacon for advanced sustainability practices in the global built environment.
Expo City Dubai continues to serve as a key driver of economic growth, innovation, and sustainability in the region.
