The UAE’s Federal Public Prosecution has launched the third phase of a regional training programme aimed at strengthening investigation and prosecution capabilities related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear crimes, reinforcing growing security cooperation between the UAE and the European Union.

The programme was inaugurated under the patronage of UAE Attorney-General Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi and is being delivered in partnership with the European Union as part of the CBRN Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence initiative. The opening session in Abu Dhabi was attended by Lucy Berger, Ambassador of the European Union to the UAE, who participated as guest of honour.

Speaking during the CBRN Prosecutors Training titled Building a Case for the Prosecution of CBRN Crimes, Berger emphasised the need for specialised judicial expertise and strong international coordination to address complex security threats. She noted that cooperation with the UAE is already robust and has the potential to expand across the Gulf and wider Arab region.

Berger highlighted that the EU’s contribution focuses on sharing best practices drawn from collaboration among its 27 member states, while also learning from the UAE’s legal and prosecutorial experience. She described regional participation from GCC states as a key strength of the programme and an area the EU hopes to see grow further.

Addressing challenges, Berger said CBRN-related crimes continue to evolve alongside new technologies, requiring constant capacity building and adaptation. She added that the EU is prioritising security partnerships and views the UAE as a critical partner in advancing regional and international resilience.
