The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) of the UAE has significantly ramped up its market oversight activities in the first half of 2024, with a sharp increase in inspection visits to ensure tax compliance and combat tax evasion.

The FTA conducted 40,580 field inspections across all emirates, marking a 134% rise from the same period in 2023, where 17,310 inspections were carried out. The number of inspection campaigns also grew by 4%, reaching 109 campaigns.

These inspections focus on ensuring businesses adhere to tax laws, such as issuing tax invoices, displaying prices inclusive of tax, and paying due taxes on products.

Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Director-General of the FTA, emphasized the authority's commitment to enhancing market oversight and preventing the sale of contraband products.

The FTA’s intensified efforts resulted in a 256% increase in reported violations, with 6,210 violations detected in H1 2024 compared to 1,740 in H1 2023. The number of compliant establishments also doubled, indicating improved adherence to tax regulations.

Additionally, the authority seized 7.26 million non-compliant products, including 5.52 million packs of tobacco and tobacco products, and 1.74 million units of other excise goods.

The FTA continues to collaborate with federal and local entities to enhance inspection efficiency, ensuring the protection of consumer rights and the integrity of the UAE market.
