Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Saeed Al Maktoum, Honorary patron of National Association of Freight and Logistics (NAFL), the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) RAME (Region Africa Middle East) field meeting and the conference opened today at Atlantis Hotel Dubai, in the presence Humaid bin Salem, Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce UAE, discussing the strategies for seamless logistics ecosystem in the face of geo-political disruptions.
Humaid bin Salem underscored the UAE's dedication to enhancing global trade through seamless multimodal connectivity. Stressing the importance of a unified approach amid global supply chain disruptions, he emphasized the UAE's pivotal role in facilitating connectivity by air, land, and sea. Aligning with FIATA's vision and the UAE's economic diversification goals, he encouraged collaboration within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and urged active participation in discussions to enhance the private sector, fostering trade and investment opportunities.
Turgut Erkeskin, President of FIATA, delivered a comprehensive overview of global challenges and evolving trends in the logistics sector during the opening ceremony. Emphasizing the strategic significance of the RAME region as a hub connecting continents, he addressed disruptions in the Red Sea, geopolitical tensions, and environmental concerns. Erkeskin highlighted the need for resilience and adaptation in the face of shifting global dynamics, advocating for an approach rooted in agility, creativity, and strategic planning. He expressed optimism for the RAME region's potential, citing sophisticated ports, airports, and a dynamic workforce. Erkeskin concluded by stressing the importance of peace, predictability, and sustainability for flourishing world trade and logistics, expressing hope for resolving current uncertainties and building regional corridors for seamless global connectivity. The overarching goal is to forge a path towards a more resilient, sustainable, and interconnected future in the global logistics arena.
Nadia Abdul Aziz, President of NAFL, welcomed over 600 delegates, representing 16 FIATA member associations, with 11 from the Arica & Middle East region from more than 29 countries. Emphasising the significance of UAE hosting the meeting, she said:
"The UAE remains a global gateway for logistics and trade with investor-friendly policies and synchronisation with international markets. In the UAE, initiatives like the 10-year visa, pro-investment policies, and a robust sustainability plan to reduce carbon emissions by 2050 foster an environment ripe for growth. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our ranking as the top destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) and the 7th place ranking on the global logistics index."
The event showcased cutting-edge initiatives, including advancements in digitalization and the implementation of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program by Dubai Customs. Dubai Chamber presented international services tailored for corporates and investors, with a focus on business research and sustainability. Dubai South highlighted offerings in e-commerce, logistics growth, and the Sea-Air Free Zone.
Panel discussions on day one centered on the evolving logistics sector in the region, exploring the "GCC Market Overview, Opportunities, and Growth Areas." Continuing until tomorrow, the event serves as a platform to unite industry leaders, innovators, and thought leaders, shaping the future of logistics in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region.
