flydubai has launched its first direct flights from Dubai to Iași, becoming the only UAE carrier to connect the two cities.
The new twice-weekly service marks a milestone in the airline’s expansion into Romania, where it now serves both Iași and Bucharest.
The inaugural flight landed at Iași International Airport to a traditional water cannon salute and a welcome ceremony attended by local officials and airport representatives. The route positions Iași Airport as the only gateway in Romania’s Moldova region with direct links to the UAE.
Alongside the new service, flydubai is increasing its operations to Bucharest to a triple daily schedule, bringing its total flights to Romania to 21 per week. The move reflects growing demand for travel between the two countries.
Jeyhun Efendi, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-commerce at flydubai, said Romania has shown steady growth since the airline began operating there in 2012.
“Passenger numbers have grown by an average of 16% annually on our route to Bucharest,”
he noted, adding that the expanded schedule highlights the route’s popularity.
Romeo Vatră, General Manager of Iași Airport, called the launch a significant milestone, saying it strengthens the airport’s role as an international hub for the region. He expressed confidence that the partnership with flydubai would expand travel opportunities and benefit both passengers and the local community.
With the addition of Iași and expanded services to Bucharest, flydubai is reinforcing its presence in Eastern Europe and further connecting the UAE with key markets across the region.
