flydubai’s senior leadership has inspected construction progress at the airline’s upcoming Aircraft Maintenance Centre (AMC) in Dubai South.

The facility is on schedule for build finalisation by the end of this year and is due to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2027.

The inspection was led by Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith, joined by Chief Commercial Officer Hamad Obaidalla, Chief Procurement & Technology Officer Mohammed Hareb AlMheiri, Chief Operations Officer Mick Hills and Chief Financial Officer Francois Oberholzer.

The purpose-built centre sits on a 32,600-square-metre site at the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, adjacent to Al Maktoum International Airport. Construction began in 2025. Once building work ends, the project will move into operational readiness, systems integration and technical commissioning.

The facility will include heavy maintenance hangars, engineering support workshops, materials management warehousing and administrative areas. It is designed to serve flydubai’s growing fleet and will employ 400 technical professionals. Bringing maintenance in-house is expected to shorten turnaround times, improve fleet availability and give the airline full quality control. The airline’s Engineering Apprentice Programme (AMEL) will help develop new aviation engineering talent.

Al Ghaith described the project as a milestone on the airline’s path to operational self-sufficiency.

“Bringing dedicated maintenance capabilities in-house gives us greater flexibility, resilience and operational efficiency,”

he said. He added that the US$190 million investment aligns with the airline’s long-term strategy around Dubai World Central and supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

flydubai currently serves more than 125 destinations and has more than 300 aircraft on order, including 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners due from early 2028. It expects to receive 11 Boeing 737 aircraft in 2026, taking its fleet to 100.
