Dubai-based airline flydubai has received the GCAA CAR 147 Approved Maintenance Training Organisation certification, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to enhancing in-house training capabilities for aircraft maintenance engineers and technicians.
The CAR 147 certification, established by the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), sets a regulatory framework for approved training programmes that meet international aviation standards. This enables flydubai to develop tailored curricula aligned with its operational requirements and specific aircraft types, ensuring the highest safety and quality standards.
His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, highlighted the importance of this achievement, stating:
“Granting flydubai a maintenance training organisation approval represents a major advancement in the educational infrastructure to train and qualify skilled professionals in the civil aviation sector. This initiative strengthens our national capabilities and aligns with the highest international standards.”
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, expressed pride in the accomplishment, noting:
“The CAR 147 certification underscores our continued investment in in-house capabilities and will serve as a foundation for growth, supporting Dubai’s economic and aviation vision.”
The certification also paves the way for flydubai to build a skilled workforce to support its expanding fleet. The airline plans to open its first purpose-built maintenance facility in Dubai South by 2026, further cementing its commitment to excellence in maintenance and engineering.
Khalid Alhumaidan, SVP of Compliance, Safety, and Sustainability at flydubai, added:
“This achievement lays the groundwork for developing new talent through structured programmes, ensuring our workforce meets the highest safety and quality standards to sustain future growth.”
With this certification, flydubai is poised to strengthen its role as a key player in the UAE’s aviation sector.
