Food Tech Valley, a UAE-led initiative focused on sustainable agriculture, has announced a 27-year strategic partnership with Badia Farms to enhance the country’s food security and promote sustainable farming.
The agreement, aimed at cultivating premium fruits and vegetables year-round, was signed by Rashed Mohammad, Chief Real Estate Officer of Wasl, and Omar Al Jundi, Founder and CEO of Badia Farms, supported by Gulf Islamic Investments (GII).
Under the partnership, Badia Farms will operate on a 236,000 sq. ft. plot, implementing hybrid vertical and horizontal farming models. These advanced methods reduce water usage by 90 percent compared to traditional agriculture and operate on clean energy. In addition, the pesticide-free, indoor growing environment ensures fresh, high-quality produce that aligns with the UAE’s standards for health and sustainability.
Rashed Mohammad highlighted the initiative as pivotal for the UAE’s food security objectives, stating,
“This long-term partnership with Badia Farms is a significant step towards achieving the UAE's ambitious food security goals. By supporting cutting-edge technologies and collaborating with industry leaders like Badia Farms, we are creating a robust and resilient food ecosystem.”
Omar Al Jundi expressed pride in joining Food Tech Valley’s mission, noting,
“Through our expertise in hydroponic farming, Badia Farms will continue to provide fresh, nutritious produce safely and sustainably.”
This collaboration advances the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy 2051 by promoting innovation in agriculture, reducing reliance on imports, and meeting rising food demands sustainably. Food Tech Valley’s partnership with industry leaders like Badia Farms reinforces the UAE’s commitment to building a resilient, self-sufficient food ecosystem.
