The 4th cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award has garnered applications from a record 51 countries, reflecting its growing global influence.
The biennial award, administered by the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), is dedicated to fostering innovative and sustainable solutions to the global water crisis through renewable energy.
With a prize fund of US$1 million, the award underscores the UAE's commitment to addressing water scarcity and ensuring access to clean water for all. It supports groundbreaking projects, technologies, and prototypes in water desalination and purification, utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, hydropower, osmotic power, and geothermal energy.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia UAE, highlighted the award’s impact since its inception by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
He stated,
“We have seen significant advancements in innovative projects and increased participation globally. This growing interest reflects the award’s success in promoting the UAE’s dedication to addressing global challenges and advancing investments in sustainable technologies. It aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6: clean water and sanitation for all.”
The award features four main categories: the Innovative Projects Award, including Large and Small Projects Awards; the Innovative Research and Development Award, comprising the National and International Institutions Awards; the Innovative Individual Award, which encompasses the Distinguished Research and Youth Awards; and the Innovative Crisis Solutions Award.
