H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, officially inaugurated the fourth edition of the ‘Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert’ festival at the Al Marmoom Desert Reserve.
Running until January 12 under the theme ‘Where Stories Come to Life,’ the festival aims to bolster the local film industry by showcasing creative talent and fostering cultural exchange.
Part of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, the event features over 80 film screenings, workshops, panel discussions, and talks led by renowned directors and industry experts. It also highlights the Al Marmoom Short-Film Competition, with entries spanning categories like documentaries, animation, live-action, and AI-driven films.
H.H. Sheikha Latifa emphasized Dubai’s role as a global cultural hub, stating,
“Cinema is a powerful medium of human creativity, capable of shaping generations and preserving cultural heritage.”
She praised the festival’s contribution to Dubai’s creative economy and its role in inspiring emerging filmmakers.
The festival includes an Immersive Experience Zone, interactive AI-based activities, stargazing in the planetarium, and a safari bus tour of the desert reserve. Visitors can enjoy musical and heritage performances, photography competitions, and traditional cuisine in a creatively designed setting.
The event is supported by prominent partners such as Emirates Airlines, Zayed University, and Dubai Police, among others, and underscores Dubai’s commitment to advancing the arts and celebrating its cultural identity.
