UAE-based technology group G42 has announced the upcoming launch of NANDA, a cutting-edge Hindi Large Language Model (LLM).

The announcement was made during the state visit of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to India.

NANDA, a 13-billion parameter model, has been trained on 2.13 trillion tokens, including extensive Hindi language datasets. The model is a result of collaboration between G42’s Inception company, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), and Cerebras Systems. Training took place on the Condor Galaxy, one of the world’s most powerful AI supercomputers.

Named after one of India's highest peaks, NANDA represents a significant advancement in AI for India, giving over half a billion Hindi speakers access to generative AI technologies. G42’s CEO in India, Manu Jain, highlighted India’s position as a global technology leader and expressed pride in G42’s contribution to the country’s AI growth.

Dr. Andrew Jackson, Acting CEO of Inception, emphasized G42’s commitment to inclusivity in AI, noting that NANDA ensures the rich heritage of the Hindi language is represented in the digital landscape.

This marks G42's second major LLM launch, following the success of JAIS, the world’s first open-source Arabic LLM, in 2023. NANDA aims to accelerate AI development in India, fostering a vibrant Hindi language AI ecosystem and broadening access to AI technology across the region.
