The General Authority of Sports (GAS) has launched the ‘Sports Talents’ platform, an integral part of the ‘Empowerment and Sustainability of Sports Talents’ project.
This initiative aims to identify and support 1,500 emerging sports talents in the UAE, aligning with the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision. The platform is designed to gather data and insights from the registration phase through to the empowerment stage, collaborating with sports organizations and educational institutions to identify promising athletes.
Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, Director-General of GAS, emphasized that the initiative seeks to expand sports practices, foster a sports culture, and develop a professional mindset among young Emiratis. The platform supports the Year of Sustainability’s goals and aims to ensure a promising future for Emirati sports through strategic partnerships with the government, private sector, and sports entities.
Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at GAS, highlighted the creation of a comprehensive database of UAE sports talents through the platform. The initiative aims to increase talent discovery events and provide financial and administrative support to athletes and sports federations, ultimately enhancing the chances of Emirati athletes in international competitions, including the 2032 Olympic Games.
The platform's key objectives include identifying talents across different age groups, monitoring initiatives to discover and empower these talents, and developing a comprehensive database for competitive sports. The Authority has set criteria for talent identification and support, focusing on creating a conducive environment for early identification, assessing talent levels, and offering continuous development programs.
The ‘Empowering and Sustaining Sports Talent’ project, in conjunction with the ‘Talents’ initiative, aims to foster a competitive sports environment in the UAE. This initiative includes organizing competitions, tournaments, and sports festivals, as well as implementing new methods to expand the scope of competitive sports, positioning the UAE as a leader in sports excellence.
