The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has granted its first regulatory approval for the trial of autonomous baggage handling vehicles at Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC).

The initiative, conducted in collaboration with Dubai Airports and dnata, will see multiple autonomous baggage tractors tested in live airside conditions.

This trial marks a major step in advancing smart mobility solutions in aviation, as the GCAA works to balance innovation with operational safety. The effort aligns with the UAE’s vision to lead in technology-driven aviation and supports the future growth of DWC, projected to handle up to 260 million passengers annually.

Officials from the GCAA, Dubai Airports, and dnata hailed the trial as a blueprint for future airside automation, enhancing efficiency, safety, and service quality across UAE airports.
