GCAA Reveals Drone Registration Statistics and Operational Guidelines in the UAE
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced that 23,960 drones are now registered in the UAE, following the lifting of the personal drone ban.
The UAE Drones Unified Platform has registered 93 companies and processed 270 individual applications since its inception.
The announcement came during a press conference organized by the GCAA in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the Integrated Transport Center of Abu Dhabi. Officials, including Colonel Jamal Al Hosani, Eng. Aqeel Al Zarouni, and Eng. Hana Mohamed Al Kokhardi, highlighted the platform's role in streamlining drone registration and ensuring safe operations.
The UAE Drones Unified Platform serves as a centralized hub for drone registration and regulation, offering users comprehensive guidelines, designated flight maps, and operational requirements. It aligns with the "We the UAE 2031" vision and UAE Centennial 2071 by promoting responsible drone usage to enhance quality of life and community safety.
Key operational guidelines include:
- Flying within visual line-of-sight and during daylight hours.
- Adhering to a maximum altitude of 400 feet.
- Avoiding restricted areas, gatherings, and private properties.
- Ensuring UAV readiness before each flight.
Colonel Jamal Al Hosani emphasized the importance of public adherence to these regulations to protect lives and property while enhancing community security. He added that individuals can now operate drones from January 7, 2025, under strict conditions.
