GE Aerospace marked the opening day of the Dubai Airshow with plans to build a state of the art On Wing Support facility at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub in Dubai South.

The investment aims to meet rising demand for CFM LEAP engine services and prepare for the entry of the GE9X engine into commercial service.

The new 120,000 square foot facility will replace the company’s current 29,000 square foot site and strengthen its technical capabilities in the region. GE Aerospace said the centre will support engine demand, field deployments, advanced technology development, and both internal and customer training.

For the first time in the history of the On Wing Support organisation, the Dubai site will include dedicated MRO training facilities. The company said this addition will help build a highly skilled workforce and enhance customer readiness.

Farah Borges, VP Assembly, Test and MRO at GE Aerospace, said the expansion reflects the company’s commitment to customers across the Middle East. She noted that growing LEAP engine service needs and future GE9X operations make Dubai a key market for long term support.

The On Wing Support organisation performs about 35 percent of all LEAP overhaul shop visits globally. GE Aerospace said the new facility will allow the team to scale overhaul operations while continuing to provide quick turn, lease pool, and field services for GE Aerospace, CFM International, and Engine Alliance engines.

The decision to build at Dubai South highlights the UAE’s growing aviation ecosystem and the strategic location of the future Al Maktoum International Airport.

Tahnoon Saif, CEO of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, welcomed the expansion, calling it a step that strengthens the hub’s position as a global centre for aerospace innovation.

Ground breaking is scheduled for this week, with construction set to begin in December 2025 and completion targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
