In 2024, the global population reached an estimated 8.156 billion, reflecting a rise of approximately 82 million from the previous year’s 8.083 billion, according to the German Foundation for World Population.
The global population crossed the 8 billion milestone in November 2022. The United Nations predicts it will surpass 9 billion by 2037 and could potentially reach 10 billion in the latter half of this century.
The foundation highlighted that while the global population is still growing, the growth rate has slowed significantly, with the current global fertility rate averaging 2.2 children per woman.
Population growth remains particularly high in Africa, where the population is projected to double within the next two decades.
