Google is deepening the role of artificial intelligence in its Chrome browser, rolling out a new set of Gemini-powered features designed to help users complete everyday tasks faster and with less friction.

The update introduces several AI tools, including Nano Banana for image generation, Auto Browse for task automation, and a new Personal Intelligence capability that tailors responses using a user’s data across Google services. Together, the features aim to turn Chrome into a more proactive assistant rather than a passive browsing tool.

A redesigned Chrome interface will support the rollout, adding a dedicated panel on the right side of the browser that keeps the Gemini chatbot accessible as users move across websites. This allows users to issue commands and receive assistance without leaving their current page.

According to Parisa Tabriz, Google’s Vice President of Chrome, early testers have already used the tools to schedule appointments, fill out online forms, manage subscriptions, renew driving licenses, collect tax documents, and request service quotes. She said the tools have helped save significant time on routine digital tasks.

The expansion builds on Google’s recent launch of the Personal Intelligence feature in the Gemini app, which connects data from services such as Gmail and Google Photos to deliver more context-aware responses.

The Chrome updates also reflect Google’s broader strategy to advance toward what DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis has described as a universal assistant. This vision centers on AI systems that can plan, decide, and take action on a user’s behalf across devices, with Chrome positioned as a key entry point to that future.
