Google News Initiative and FT Strategies Conclude AI Design Sprint MENA in Dubai

The Google News Initiative (GNI) and FT Strategies, in partnership with the UAE Media Council and the Saudi Ministry of Media, have successfully concluded the "AI Design Sprint MENA" programme.

Held at Google’s Innovation Hub in Dubai Internet City, the event brought together leading media figures and experts to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in the media and publishing sectors.

The programme featured specialised workshops and discussions led by FT Strategies, with the participation of Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council. It was designed to enhance the capabilities of media professionals across the MENA region, equipping them with the tools and insights needed to integrate AI into their operations.

Maitha Majed Al Suwaidi, CEO of Strategy and Media Policy at the UAE Media Council, praised the initiative, describing it as a transformative effort aligned with the Council’s vision of fostering innovation in the media landscape.

“This programme empowers media professionals with essential skills to navigate the evolving media environment confidently and purposefully,”

she noted.

Mazen Sabbagh, News and Publishing Partnerships Lead for MENA at Google, highlighted the programme’s role in driving business growth through innovative AI solutions. Sabrina Daryanani, Principal at FT Strategies, emphasized its focus on developing AI use cases, assessing risks, and fostering sustainability in journalism.

The event concluded with workshops addressing AI opportunities, risks, and strategies, leaving participants equipped with the knowledge to shape a forward-thinking media future.
