The General Women’s Union (GWU) has signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Women to enhance cooperation and share expertise in women’s empowerment.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, where high-level delegations from across the globe were present.

This latest MoU builds on a longstanding partnership between the two institutions, which began with the first memorandum in December 2007. Both parties aim to expand collaboration in line with evolving priorities, focusing on integrating women’s needs into sustainable development, promoting equal opportunities, and fostering gender balance.

The memorandum outlines a framework for joint initiatives, including exchanging research and specialised studies, organising programmes and events, sharing expertise, and coordinating positions in regional and international forums. It also establishes periodic follow-up mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of its provisions.

Officials from both the GWU and the Supreme Council emphasized that the agreement reflects the close fraternal ties between the UAE and Bahrain and reinforces their shared commitment to advancing women’s social, economic, and political participation.

The MoU signals a continued effort by both institutions to strengthen institutional partnerships and develop practical programmes that support women’s advancement across multiple sectors.
