Dubai’s Crown Prince, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved a new architectural identity for the emirate’s road projects as he reviewed progress on some of Dubai’s largest ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
The initiative aims to unify the visual character of bridges, tunnels, streets, and urban elements across the city. Developed in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, it focuses on sustainability, modern design, and harmony across six key urban zones, from residential and rural areas to cultural districts and major attractions.
During a site visit, Sheikh Hamdan inspected the Trade Centre Roundabout and Al Mustaqbal Street improvement works. The AED1.3 billion projects include seven bridges and three tunnels stretching 6,500 metres. Together, they are designed to reduce travel time by 75 percent and benefit more than one million residents and visitors moving through areas such as DIFC, Emirates Towers, Museum of the Future, and Downtown Dubai.
The Trade Centre Roundabout project has reached 40 percent completion. The first two bridges will open in January, with more openings scheduled through 2026. Once finished, the interchange will double its traffic capacity and cut delays from 12 minutes to 90 seconds.
Upgrades on Al Mustaqbal Street are set for completion in 2027. The project will expand the corridor to four lanes in each direction, supported by new tunnels, a pedestrian bridge, and improved junctions to ease movement through the busy financial district.
Sheikh Hamdan also reviewed the Dubai Tunnels initiative, which will beautify 18 tunnels using murals created by local and international artists. New smart lighting systems and durable artistic panels will enhance safety while elevating the city’s visual identity.
RTA briefed Sheikh Hamdan on Dubai’s wider transport achievements, highlighting rapid construction rates, global cost efficiency, and plans for 72 new projects worth AED35 billion by 2027.
