The Hatta Running Championship made its highly anticipated return on January 4 under the patronage of Sheikh Saeed bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Hatta Club.
Organised by the Hatta Sports, Cultural and Social Club in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and the Hatta Winter Festival committee, the event has already attracted over 1,000 participants, with a strong international presence.
Part of the broader Hatta Winter initiative, which is backed by the Supreme Committee to Supervise the Development of Hatta and Brand Dubai, the championship features eight categories across various age groups and genders. Races include distances of 8 km for Emirati men and open participants, 5 km for Emirati and open women, 5 km for youth under 20, and a 3 km race for Emirati children and under-16 participants.
The event’s routes showcase the scenic beauty of Hatta, with all races concluding at the stunning Leem Lake. With a prize pool of AED100,000, the championship offers significant incentives for competitors.
This race is a key element of the Hatta Winter initiative, which aims to promote tourism, foster community engagement, and elevate Hatta’s profile as a hub for sports tourism. The initiative aligns with Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan, supporting sustainable development and tourism growth.
The championship adds to a series of exciting sporting events in the region, including the Hatta Winter Football Championship and the upcoming mountain biking and kayaking races. These events position Hatta as an emerging destination for international sports enthusiasts and contribute to local economic development.
