The UAE's National Program for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues, known as "Hayat," has successfully completed 1,000 post-mortem organ donations since its inception in 2017.

This achievement underscores the UAE's leadership in organ transplantation and aligns with the "We the UAE 2031" vision to enhance the nation's global standing.

The milestone coincides with World Organ Donor Day on August 13, showcasing the UAE's commitment to raising awareness about organ donation and leveraging advanced healthcare facilities and international partnerships. The Hayat Program, recognized as the fastest-growing organ donation initiative globally, has seen a 417% increase in organ donation and transplantation over the past five years.

With over 26,800 individuals registered as potential donors and more than 255 actual donors, the program highlights the potential of organ donation to save lives. A single donor can save up to eight patients, and living donors can contribute kidneys and parts of their liver to relatives and non-relatives alike.

The program's success reflects the UAE's strategic efforts to promote a culture of organ donation, enhance the health sector's global competitiveness, and support the prevention of organ failure diseases. The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) continues to collaborate with partners to educate the public about the importance of organ donation, ensuring that the UAE remains a regional and global leader in this critical field.
