If you're a book lover or in need of a quiet place to study, a membership with Dubai's Public Libraries could be perfect for you. With access to an extensive collection of physical and digital books, as well as free internet across all public libraries in the emirate, membership offers a host of benefits.

For instance, at Mankhool Library alone, you can choose from over 35,000 books, while Al Twar Library offers fun activities for members. In addition, members receive discounted rates on library services for five years.

Membership Costs

The cost of membership varies depending on the applicant's category:

  • Child Membership: Free, with a Dh75 insurance fee
  • Adult Membership: Dh50, with a Dh150 insurance fee
  • Family Membership: Dh50, with a Dh200 insurance fee

An additional Dh20 will be charged as innovation and knowledge fees.

How to Apply

Applying for a membership is a simple process that requires only a valid ID. Here's how to apply online:

  1. Visit the website of Dubai's Culture and Arts Authority and navigate to the 'Libraries' section under 'Attractions.'
  2. Scroll to the bottom and click on 'E-Services.'
  3. Select 'Public Libraries Services' on the left, then choose 'New Membership' and click 'Start Service.'
  4. Complete the registration form with your details, or sign in using UAE Pass.
  5. If registering with your details, you’ll receive an activation link via email.
  6. Once logged in, go to your profile and select 'Upgrade Account.'
  7. Choose your membership type, agree to the terms, and upload your Emirates ID.
  8. Complete your payment after receiving a payment link via email.
  9. You will receive a Digital Libraries Membership Card, valid at all public libraries in Dubai.

Fines and Penalties

Members should be aware of the following fines:

  • Late Returns: 50 fils per day.
  • Lost/Damaged Books:
    • Replace the item and pay Dh25 for administrative costs, or
    • Pay the item’s value plus Dh25 for administrative costs.
    • Damaging a book incurs a Dh50 fine, with an additional Dh20 knowledge and innovation fee. A damaged magnetic sticker incurs a Dh10 charge.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in the cancellation of the membership, with no refund of the security deposit.
