Motorists in the UAE have an opportunity to reduce black points on their driving licenses by simply adhering to traffic rules on the first day of the new academic year. On August 26, as thousands of students return to school after the summer break, drivers who commit to safe driving can have four black points removed from their records.

How to Participate:

To benefit from this initiative, drivers must sign a six-point pledge online and ensure they avoid any traffic violations or accidents on August 26. Here’s everything you need to know:

Conditions for Black Points Reduction:

  1. Sign the Pledge: Motorists need to log in to the Ministry of Interior's website using their UAE Pass and sign the pledge, which commits them to six crucial traffic safety rules.
  2. Accident-Free Day: To qualify for the reduction, drivers must avoid any traffic violations or accidents throughout August 26.

Details of the Pledge:

The pledge includes a commitment to the following six key traffic safety rules:

  • Maintain a Safe Distance: Always keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
  • Give Priority to Pedestrians: Ensure pedestrians have the right of way at crossings.
  • Wear Seatbelts: Always wear your seatbelt while driving.
  • Adhere to Speed Limits: Stick to the posted speed limits at all times.
  • Avoid Mobile Phones: Do not use a handheld mobile phone while driving.
  • Yield to Emergency Vehicles: Give way to emergency vehicles, police, public service vehicles, and official convoys.

When Will the Points Be Reduced?

If all conditions are met, four black points will be automatically removed from the motorist’s driving record on September 14.

What Happens After Signing the Pledge?

Once the pledge is signed, participants will receive a certificate of participation via email.

Understanding Black Points:

Black points are penalties imposed on drivers for serious traffic violations. The severity of the violation determines the number of points assigned. For instance, reckless driving can result in a Dh2,000 fine and 23 black points, while not wearing a seatbelt incurs a Dh400 fine and four black points. Accumulating 24 black points within a year can lead to the suspension of a driving license.

Purpose of the Initiative:

Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, explained that the campaign aims to “foster a culture of responsible driving.” This initiative not only encourages safer driving habits but also promotes traffic safety throughout the year.

By participating in this initiative, drivers can take a significant step towards improving road safety in the UAE while also benefiting from a reduction in penalties.
