In the past, obtaining a driving license in Dubai was a challenging and time-consuming process. However, the Dubai government has recently streamlined the procedure, making it easier not only to acquire a new license but also to replace a lost or damaged one.
Eligibility
If you're a Dubai resident with a lost or damaged driving license, you are eligible to apply for a replacement.
Requirements
To apply for a replacement, you only need to present your Emirates ID.
Service Fees
- Under 21 years old: Dh100
- 21 years old or older: Dh300
- Additionally, all applicants must pay Dh20 or more for knowledge and innovation fees.
Validity
The replacement license will have the same validity period as the original.
How to Apply
You can apply for a replacement in several convenient ways:
Online via RTA Website
- Visit the RTA website and enter your Emirates ID, driver's license details, or traffic file number.
- Click 'Apply for Replacing a Lost/Damaged Driving License'.
- Complete the 'Identity Verification' tab using your Emirates ID, driving license, number plate, or traffic file number.
- Verify your identity with an OTP sent to your registered phone number.
- Pay the required fees using a debit or credit card.
Through the RTA App
- Log in with your RTA account or UAE Pass.
- Tap 'Renew a driving license'.
- Choose 'Driver Licensing' and then 'Replace a driving license'.
- Fill in the required details and indicate whether the license was lost or damaged.
- Pay the required fees using a debit or credit card.
Via Mahboub Chatbot on the RTA Website
- Click the Mahboub Chat icon.
- Enter your name, mobile number, and email address.
- Type 'lost my driving license' or 'my license is damaged' in the chat box.
- Provide the necessary information and pay the required fees.
At Self-Service Machines
- Enter your driving license number, issuing authority, birth year, and reason for replacement.
- Verify the displayed details.
- Pay the required fees using a debit or credit card.
New Driving License
Once approved, you will receive a temporary driving license via email while awaiting the new one. You can claim your new license at self-service machines or customer happiness centers in Deira or Al Barsha. For Apple device users, the electronic license can be accessed through the Apple Wallet via the RTA Dubai App.
